A highly interesting weight from Herakleia Pontika

BITHYNIA. Herakleia Pontika, circa 4th-3rd centuries BC. Weight of 1 Mina (Lead, 20x54x60 mm, 578.00 g, 6 h), Apollodoros, magistrate. MNA Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. HPAKΛE/ΩTAN Club and bow in bowcase. Pondera -, cf. 1593, 12524, 12607, 12608 and 13034 (differing magistrates). Apparently unpublished. Some minor flan faults and with two large cuts on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This impressive early Hellenistic weight is stamped twice on the edge with AΠΟΛΛOΔΩPOY within a rectangular incuse. This is very likely the name of the magistrate overseeing the production and guaranteeing the weight standard of the weight
